just a minute today's session is a little bit different than normal you can probably tell from the agenda and I just said a lot so I'm going to let inside are they part of the coffee is always about you sharing some specific information give us some feedback on that and I got to be honest with you some of this information to the public even confusing for me but we're going to try to make it as clear as possible and we're going to give you a place to write down questions and feedback so this is actually a process I'll be real like honest here this is a state required process the El Cap process is a state-required I'm still trying to you're out a way to make it really I mean both her parents because I think sometimes it's not super easy to understand and so it's hard to provide beautiful La Pita simply asked me out it is our parent it is the school level parent and family engagement policy wrong language for you if it's in the wrong language for you let us know but if you could just take as we get started with our meeting if you can just take a couple minutes read it over if you have an addition or suggestions for it just right on the actual policy and we'll collect it back yes and if you need something to write with let us know jurist was not they reminded me of my classes just so you know what I put on there do it. good morning just a quick reminder any comments or questions or suggestions that you have for this document you can just write them on the actual document and we're going to reflect those to try to adjust the document including those who died so if you have any comments or questions or suggestions do you have those just write them on the actual document on if you need any paper and do that I'm looking around I think we might need some yes thank you better why do feel free to continue will collect all of these at the end so feel free to continue marking things on there if you like but we're going to move into the presentation and talk a little bit about the ELCA so the El Cap is the local control and accountability plan and it is required by the state because the state is trying to make sure that families and parents can provide input and accountability for schools and school districts is 90 Oz a pint anything yellow and so again the intention the intention of the state is to make sure the families and put can provide input important input and feedback to school but one of the questions I always ask is is the way things are set up clear and helpful for parents or not solaro estate presents a lot of this information is not super easy to understand or provide feedback on one of those planets you might have suggestions on how to make this process better for you as parents I put this this piece of paper together with different sections so you would have a place to write some notes and provide feedback for us both about the information we share but also about how to make this process better for you beyond read the first section here is what questions do you have how the school is doing do you have this presentation what some of the feedback that you have on the data and information that was presented or shared what general feedback do you have for the school what's something that we don't talk about but that you are thinking to yourself here's some feedback I have for the school and sometimes when families come to the coffee they have something that they really want to check in with a staff member about we may not have time for that today so this box down here this box down here is what items are information would you like a staff member to follow up with you about if there's something that you feel like you need to talk someone today about you can write that in this box beginning of love please do make sure you put the information at the top with like your name the name of your student otherwise we may not be follow up with you and then if you feel like these questions or these sections apply to what you have to say you can always write something at the bottom where you can write something on the back you can ride on the back I wish and then put something for us metal and then put something but so not everybody knows how schools get their funding but this line is talking about the local control funding formula and the local control funding formula which was set up to try to make sure that that funding was kind of equitable where is Indiana our state takes chase the income for the like the taxes and it goes to the state and in the state send the money to the districts and the school based on this formula so gives more money to schools that have low income Scholars English or Foster youth Mackenzie Middle School standing in a garden you go to the next light which I think has everything that that just said yeah call when you can and its focus is on eight different areas okay and you can see those areas there in Spanish but I'm going to see them in English Common Core implementation parent engagement scholar treatment scholar engagement School client access and other call Ralph Jones mission of the El Cap the local control and account we plan and schools must focus on improving outcomes for stop by study long-term goals tracking progress towards those goals and accountability soic so do the next slide so why do we use the El Cap and you can go to the Spanish one why do you deal cab for you the l cap because decision making decision making should be mobile ideally we are increasing transparency but again we're going to share data and if you feel confused that's a normal I sometimes feel confused I be trying to improve consistency over time and of course Gathering input from parents because parents really help us as partners to give you more data that's more helpful California Dennis Green so what is your role in the El Cap and you can go to the Spanish pond parents often know things or 19 things that provide input like doing monthly PD for the teachers based on the foundational practices number number three too though through the implementation of those foundational practices play identifying meet measures for ELA and math monitoring biweekly in 40 x meetings w r o c h e n n way we are determining if those are being effective is with our kpi meetings and we have for kpi meetings a year hoping to see the dean of Shame based on those is the interim assessment the evaluation and that's how we're trying to get to to measure we haven't talked in a long time I see what hand I want to I want to take the question and then I also just want to give a little bit of time once the question you asked I'll try to answer right away but then I want you to go to talk to the people around you like what do we think about this do we have any questions and go ahead and write those down first masika masika kpi not so a lot of educational establishments including Alliance follow what they see as effective business principles Siegen business principles so if you would have Google kpi what you would find is a lot of discussion about how kpi helps organizations improve performance true true and most of the examples if you would have Google kpi most of the examples would come from the business world the direct translation is key performance Decatur's performance show one very clear example other key performance indicator is what is our attendance rate in the families are all doing what they should tenants rate is high Land O'Lakes statistics that are important for understand the performance of the school a lot of information we're going to leave the Spanish one up there I know it's really small I apologize if you need to move to be able to reread it to yourself go ahead but I want to give school that's what the high school is focused on high school system in order to improve instructional outcomes at the high school academy and we have four things that we are really focused on this when students say that they haven't spent much time trying to figure it out so instead of immediately starting to explain to the student we want the teacher to ask them questions to see if the student can get on the right track no with no life without being told what to do I think sometimes parents think wait so the teachers not supposed to help the kid but that's not the point you what to do in the students were taking notes then the student sees that exact type of problem we don't want the teacher to do all the thinking and explaining we want the student to have used that information and try to find a little bit confusing Las Casita we don't want the teacher doing all the work for the student we want the student to utilize the model and the information and try doing some of the work on their own and some of you might be wondering why is that so important when students use their brain to remember use information if it's causative work it's their head working hard in the more that that happens to a to a human brain it doesn't matter whose brain were talking about doesn't matter doesn't matter if they're old it gets harder when you're older it doesn't matter through down whether of our feedback to our teachers is consistently I need you to say less so the students do more I know a lot of the most famous teachers in movies and TV are lecturing and talking and it looks so interesting that's not actually listening students skills the ones who do the work the 1 to exercise are the ones who get in shape if someone want to be an amazing reader I need to read thousands and matters specifically our school talk with the principal we have our ssac we have our elpc and of course you know we are out there we try to be available and try to connect with with parents when they this but it's not my choice California determined that we utilize a key performance indicator for the whole state a statistic called distance from standard just very quickly is to look at a group of students like one grade level of students and see how they improve in a year what I mean preferencia locate distance from standard look at the whole school to the state test they do solamente where do Alex a Minnesotan anybody know why that's a problem for our school nevermind because they do it on a computer and the computer follows there may be some problems for some of our students doing online testing so that's one possible problem anybody else have an idea about why that's a problem New Braunfels those are both really good really good contributions I'm being nice it's at its highest the biggest problem is that our school is seven grades but we only do the state test in solamente a 7/8 and 11 septimo of family on Silverado in 9th 10th or 12th and that's not our choice that is the state only gives the test to do those or of our 7 braids the other problem is it we have very different students who take the test every year more different places to Beyonce do from middle school we have 500 kids take the test in 9th grade so that's 190 of the 500 that are different each year but that's not all because because we got 90 new students in seventh grade every year and of course 11th grade is Sprint every year we have 600 students who take a test in like last year something you get the money and we're going to look in this may and have another six hundred kids take the test authorization of New York only three hundred of those students took the test with us the last year examine this year scored proficient the next year I think if I were a parent I would think oh so the kids got better look at it and you would think all the school. Better it doesn't come up maybe they did tell you it's three hundred different kids it's not the same kids and this is something I'm not gonna argue about this all the time Mr tiongco is is is right the state doesn't care that's different kids but if I were a parent and I wanted to know how the school was doing it would matter to me a lot but it wasn't actually showing the same kids growth every year so this way they have the way that because what it is is disruptive to be challenging new program because this is new look at your first Auto Body on you Erica Munoz and so we're not going to go into the I already data like today but just so you know when I'm trying to figure out the school is working I don't use the same I use the I already did enough because then I get to see the kids to beginning the same kids in the middle of the year the same kids at the end of the year it's not 300 different kits the same 500 kits I really know Silly Sally, Sally Arrow but I made in America but here's the problem the problem is not all schools in California use the Iran the only test that's used by all the schools in California at least the public schools is the state test so they have to have some number that is big on the state test so I'm going to explain GFS and I'm going to try to answer questions but like the next time we meet I'll be sharing more of the i-Ready data for the Middle School so you don't miss don't miss the next few meetings because we'll go over that day it's much simpler and it's much more clear okay and she had a question if you want a ride do you select who is taking the test or are they randomly every student is supposed to test and is testing in those breaks every suit but there are situations where students either don't come to school or don't end up finishing but our goal is always to get more than 90 are students to complete okay so this is from standard just real quickly distance from standard again this is a state number if you look on the couch schools dashboard which is something the state created to help parents make sense of school you're going to see the same number there positive number means that the average go is scoring that many points above the state standard proficiency score how many points below the states you'll number. So let's look at the actual data okay and so what you have here is you have three different lines because we're comparing three different things one two three okay the green here is bream USD and the state is orange and this is for the language arts test so this is the reading and writing data Alex and you can see these are the three different years 2019 to 2020 to 2023 do 2019 this was before the pandemic and this is one of the highest score in years for the alliance MIT complex ever so like the years before we're coming up to this Marine complex positive number means a positive number means the average student is scoring that many points above. MC score Mimi's Pizza so in 2019 it was positive 11 and 2022 it was positive for Master P took in 2023 made of 2023 so like 9 months ago 9 months 9 months ago was -3 so is this line right here if this is the proficiency line you can see those numbers reflected there is a tarantula if we were to see the the state here the state in leusd we actually outscored them as well but our where is every single year is significantly higher significantly higher than LAUSD and higher than the states remember the state is orange with roses Forest & Co meaning of accomplishments in math I remember when you look at this number this was 600 kids yes. Call me Lionel Messi kids with this one but also 300 completely new kids and this is Ela there's a first of all feel free to raise your hand also feel free to write them down on that piece of paper that data I need to stay and talk to people near you jot down questions and then I'll okay so go ahead take a minute the Super Bowl I would argue that work out your sister is not Vice news sometimes when kids come in sometimes the song I mean the second one not in the way. so that we can track. Cy Falls High School is there any any quick questions about the ELA data am I writing it down over here you know what everybody like for the song for right now we don't know what every we have a lot of questions to be written on it and explain how it comes to stay in library everybody is worried about the feedback the more that we do this the easier it will get Aaron Lambert thinking but I like that I like that idea call Santa. so I think one of the things that you're asking about Norma is in future can we have a couple of workshops before we share the school data cuz that will help us do a better job giving feedback that makes a lot of sense and will work to change a power hour stop schedule to do better with that next year and you know what it what is it good for might only ask the one side of town so we care he would be good for all the parents from Walter school to participate and to be recognized in order to take these workshops will be awarded I thought you said they complied was that okay let's move to the to the math distance from standard so you can that information this is the English word for the Spanish version okay just like last time free Orange Is the state and you can see the Marine complex actually one thing that you can see right away is every single organization the average student is below proficient because the zero line is right here Marine scored higher than everyone what was the math data that is not true in 2019 we were at -29.9 or -30 scoring higher in both LAUSD but in 2022 Marine scored higher than leusd but not as high as the state no. you will notice that from 2022 to 2023 the distance from standard for math at Marine improved a lot in new middle is the amazing work that our 8th grade team did last year because our 8th grade math teachers Miss Molina and Miss Rosa improve their eighth graders scores a lot la razon and you might be wondering like how do we know that for sure well our 7th graders who then become 8th graders is one of the only times that are school where the kids are the same because we have 109 seventh grade her and most of those students come back and we have 190 8th graders so we can look at the 7th grade data from this year and then we can look at the 8th grade data from this year and it really is mostly. and we did such a good job that some of the other Alliance schools are coming to watch what's happening in our classrooms because not only did we score the highest but we also grew the most play we're going to give you some time to talk to the people around you and Mister chili is going to go back and forth between this slide and if you want to go the next Life Church I hear some questions here are some questions that you can think about in Spanish and if you just want to like read those questions and then give them some time to and buy some ideas now funny notes that you might have more questions you might have I'm going to be so you might just want to ask you a quick question unless you're tired you can also just like sometimes go back to the to the data one so that they can see the data there right now on the 25th oh yeah find me more.
