as I was saying today is going to be a relatively short meeting next month I will be just be prepared Starbomb Dominican do we do after review and finalize our budget and preparation for Budget approval with the alliance the alliance board of directors so just a reminder today will be a relatively short meeting the meeting next month will be longer as we approved the budget that will go to the alliance Alliance board for approval but it's been a it's been a lot it's been a lot the last few days and I just want to say thank you to our amazing parents thank you to our amazing teachers and Educators and families for the resilience patience and support over the last few days so just I know it's been tough so I want to make sure that we will be acknowledged the hard work of everyone both at the homes or end in the school like I said Garden inducer mazing a chairperson missing Maura who's been so consistent for us to call the meeting to order and before I start mr. A devil in the cutout but I believe she asked for a motion approve the minutes I'd say we have a first Miss McClurkin moves to approve the minutes from the meeting on March 1st at 2023 can you get a second second emotion and I believe that was my high and I think that is approved unanimously for putting these awesome minutes together each each month in collaboration with the team they beat us up there now and just really especially after its spring break you know you sometimes forget what we talked about so this was really thorough and I appreciated the level of detail and and information that we got here so all right that's what I genda miss a call center Mr Tire handling supervision and professional development today but just the biggest update I think we know it's from the last few days we unfortunately had a ridiculous unacceptable inappropriate racist comment that was put online by one of our students unfortunately it was though it was the original post was not online very long through the power and not so great power of social media that was spread throughout causing chaos stress anxiety beer in our school community this ridiculous joke cause so much harm to the school community and for that we were in collaboration and communication with district with our Network and LAPD and were able to swiftly and proactively address with discipline and restoration and needs to happen with the canoe and so I apologize again on behalf of the school community that this happened unfortunately if you weren't already aware a similar incident happened today at one of our local llusd pub unfortunately in this case several police were on hand students on lockdown in fear crying to do to another hoax in another school community so I'm going to remind us and is this is why mr. tiongco does not like smartphone access for kids this is why I don't like social media for kids because the level of maturity needed to access these kind of sites these resources fortunately beyond the maturity of our students. prepubescent or living with or going through puberty themselves these are challenges already with puberty the social motion all the physical changes Noah's Ark already really big challenges and then you add in an addictive tool like social media and cell phones whether students are getting this addictive dopamine through it video is like this is why we unfortunately have these issues that come up and then unfortunately as the there's a fable that I read as a child The Boy Who Cried Wolf and in the story this kid tell someone a wolf getting me and it's a fake it's fake I was getting me and then it's fake and then when it actually happened no one believed no one was prepared and so that was a story that stuck with me as a kid and it's one day that guides my work today I want to make sure we're not engaging those in those hoaxes and these jokes that are inappropriate and I also want to make sure that we're always prepared that's why we are always ready it's not just a thing that I stayed at shear always ready is a motto that I live by it's a model that I want our students to live by in our families and stuff because I want us ready for any situation that may arise and so again I was frustrated I was upset the students felt mr. Yonkers raft Community will serve its rap in the discipline but I also when I think about the amount of resources that were wasted today at this local school not too far from us and the kids crying under their table do to another hoax that upsets me and so again Mr Taco and in collaboration with our leadership team here are going to push for more strict guidelines more strict Nations because I want our students family members and staff to be safe no parent wants to lose a child no team member wants to lose a life no no no stew want to lose a friend so that is the biggest news that was shared the last few days when I was like I said there was an incident today at a local Ali Unified School in our community that's mama is not something our kids can recover from that quickly and so I'm thankful that we didn't have to deal with that here but that's not okay and so that's the biggest update from the Roseville High School side thing that I'm going to share what I had a town hall like I'm taking a lot of those ideas back as we prepared to continue to be a safe School but I do want to remember that we are a darn good school I would not take my daughter here and I said I say this a lot I would not take my daughter here unless I genuinely felt that this was one of the safest most secure and best places for my daughter to be successful for my son to be successful we got a student into Harvard you going to students into Stanford and UCLA to Berkeley UC San Diego all across the UCC all across the Cal State System including one of my local school see Sun where we have a ton of support their first dollars due to our partnership with our donors let's not forget that we got some students into these amazing universities let's not forget that we were we had a step student go to state for cross country we are the first ever Alliance girl sports team win at CIF championship in only Arthur. Real Sports we have Posse scholarships Dell scholarship winners we are at school that is doing good things for our kids and our community and it me off to no end when people waste our time in creating fear and Chaos for a community so thank you very much to the family's here you were the ones I'm not you're not the ones I'm worried about your my Solutions like you're my people that are doing good things for a community but yeah just those are the major updates any questions about anything that I just shared I know that it's a bit of heavy few days but I wanted to make sure that those update 4shared just for the record Smith Fennell is disjoint thank you miss me petal for now thank you hi everybody you have any comments questions otherwise I'll move its on to new business it's yeah I was very upset the last few days because my daughter was worried about her her Baba and that's not what I want for any parent or any student and you know what mr. jungle that's actually something that took out like sit out for my son table cuz he's that with me as I joined the town hall meeting that you said up and that was like what impact did him the most like wow like mr. Johnson's daughter was read about him exactly like that's the same way all parents worry for their children going to school so I was I was very alarmed as a parent I didn't know if I was doing the right thing by keeping him home or not but at the end since I know him I'll let you know what I said Creedmoor inside except for him so I that's why I decided to keep him home for the day and after he sat with me and listen to they call the solutions that you gave it all the input all the feedback he feel much more secure to go back to school Tuesday and he came home telling me like Mom we have nothing to worry about we're okay so that made me you know feel like okay I'm okay but now it just as a parent like I would like to know like I know we can't go into details as to who it was or anything like that but what are the consequences that's too is facing because of this yes so the great question so there is an leusd and in any one of you can Google is there isn't the first hit that you'll get on Google LAUSD discipline Matrix exactly the discipline that we have to follow as a charter school authorized by Ellie unified so there are consequences that we implemented based on leusd guidelines and then there's consequences that I have with the police and say there are two sets of consequences and things that we're doing at the site and with the community that's why I said I was pissed and people felt people are going to feel the the upset so again this is thankfully we didn't have to deal with what the school dealt with today but that doesn't that doesn't take away the fear that a lot of us felt Sunday night and for me and my family we celebrate Easter to come up Easter egg hunting the joy and celebrating in My Religion it's has a celebration the come off of that and then to have to sleep at 3 in the morning the next that that night upset me and then going into the next day and not having to sleep like those were not good feelings for me because I knew that those were fears for my families and so I will always put my I will always give I will always give my my I will always get my full heart and soul to my to my school community and make sure that we are safe and and make sure that my daughter has a has a father took to come home and so to the best of my ability we will do that and so thank you thank you again for those comments and yeah definitely know we are safe we're safe and we are doing everything we can to continue to be safe there's a lot of things I want to have done in society that need to be fixed that are beyond our walls of a school that I'm going to ask our leaders and parents we need to be talking for politicians we need to be talking to School District leaders to schools that we know of in the same area had hoaxes I want our school board members I want all of our politicians all of our local agencies to get on this because it's the price country and so yeah thanks thank you again this is why you been an incredible leader and I again I respect anyone's decision over a session on Monday for those parents that held their students out I understand and there's things that I can excuse It's the state requirement but I understand and you're not going to get any issues with me so anyway thank you again and that's any other comments otherwise I'm going to move its on and then said so sorry really quick I just want to thank you thank you and the staff the whole staff for the hard work and the backpack check town hall meeting from yesterday but thank you for miss tomorrow for bringing that up I wasn't I wasn't clear on what was going on yesterday but thank you for all the hard work I I know that I can pay a lot more but I just want to really thank you and the whole staff for for everything absolutely no and then again this it takes a village to all of us are in this together like all of us are in this together and so it just terrible this at the house and now we learn from it and my worry and this is another thing that's why I don't like social media if I don't like smartphones copycat kids saw what happened right they sneeze see the reaction they see the attention that it drew the infant the infamy that it drew I don't want a bunch of copycats so that's another thing that I that's why I want to figure out how do we do this with social media and cell phones with kids cuz a lot of the chaos that happened at the school today was because kids were messaging and the story got wild like the stories that we heard from the school now wild and none of those were and so that's that's why I really it's one of the one of the main reasons I do the cell phone lock apps right like the it's because telephone literally a metal quickly the message changes today's Ending Story for that school with bananas and none of it was real and every person that knew about it got freaked out understand fighting with each other amongst each other because of all the like fake news that everybody was spreading like this we can hit him twice for me my little cousin goes there so I had my end call. Don't Panic you know it's not as bad as it seems all they do is just wait and just her it was more like this is where I feel blessed and I could share that I could say wow the school has like little to no communication with parents obviously because their main concern was a chill but at least here at Alliance we had you at late night that you know Sunday talking to us and letting us know and comforting us in a way so I can say like wow you know what like it's better my aunt said I'm switching my said he's going to go to a lion sounds like you better to switch him okay so you know the store I'm not trying to say the name just out of respect but it's no like I have friends that that work there and I have law enforcement friends that's why we're able to get contact pretty quickly but now it's just sad what happened and they'll appreciate your support I'm going to go ahead and share my screen now I'm in some part of you give me access to that and there's a couple items it's not long I just wanted to review them and then we can close today's meeting pretty quickly next month I shared it already next month will be a longer meeting cuz we have to review our budget and if you don't know our budget we're operating like a 19 million dollar budget so there's a lot of stuff that we spend on so let me go in and share my screen tell me if you see an El Cap template required Ali-A responses perfect this is based on we have to send this to La unified about things that we're doing the support our school we've talked about this so the three major areas of growth for Alliance MIT from last year were chronic absenteeism so getting a kids here more frequently improving our math scores and then improving our English learner progress and so as we talked about we're adding we our adding one-on-one tutoring we've added Encore Ender tutors we've added more ELD English language development classes at we were working on a chronic absenteeism pilot a few things that were doing setting address those concerns our continuing to work on academic achievement beliefs and behaviors and and having a culture of collaboration and then we have our five different goals one is around basic Services making sure we have teachers here all the technology resources and supports we have a strong instructional program that includes eight energy a like this and advanced main courses in college access courses are we have strong families as partners at working with you all access sacriel PC and other other parent groups and then we're continuing to offer I is a line for parents that need those go for is about having a strong scholar culture a staph culture an engagement so having a positive behavior intervention support having a ton of field trips I know. 70s to have for a kids like you do miss canela's going to get a shout-out from either because she's one of the ones you like helps make all these things happen and then like white sand and a father who help with a lot of the parent and then also creating these are the ones who decorated make our school look beautiful and put all these Advanced so doing spending money on that and then also just focusing on Scott College Success like I said our school this little in Sun Valley that draws from all over the North East San Fernando Valley got kids into Harvard Stanford UCLA etcetera and we're just so proud of the work that we're doing here and so those are the dogs are some of the that's the update on El Cap what are some questions that we have on the El Cap update yeah it's a lot of stuff that we've been talking about already but just wanted to review it all right so the next the next one that I'm going to share is about our wasp so this is our Western Association for schools and colleges it's our mid-cycle report and so on shared we were one of only a handful of school out of the 5000 plus schools at that the accreditation organization evaluates never suggest a mid-cycle review meaning they trust us and they believe in the success of our school that they don't need a visit in between an acreditacion last six years and typically a school's visited at the three of them are they trust us and not based on our successes the date we just needed to provide an update in a report and Sochi members here help to review this before and I'll go in and share again a little bit of the work that we've been doing so thumbs up if you could see our mid-cycle progress report sounds good I see a thumbs-up and a side comes up and seeing my son wasn't sure about halfway yes that way now. Are you now you got the ankle making sure that we we wanted to provide an update so in the first this is why every school that offers high school diploma or a college diploma has to have an accreditation and so we are accredited in the first section and I talked about the changes that have been that have been happening with a pandemic in the second section I talked about the changes and and development and so continue to grow our population like we're over 1,000 Scholars now and McClurkin remembers how small we were that first year at just talk about how we've grown as a school the relationships in the Partnerships that we built over the years our results like I talked about a lot of success and then the reputation and one thing I share about reputation we're proud to have one every Alliance award whether it's teacher of the year and engagement of the year class B of the alumni of the Year principal of the Year Etc we're really proud to have one of those Awards and then also being featured in a book this past year A continuing to focus on ongoing School Improvement and so we continue to work with you all continue to work with our staff to make sure that we're addressing these different goals and so these are the different areas that we've kind of identified so making sure that we are supporting our teachers we have rigorous behavioral and academic expectations grades six through 12 we are preparing our kids to be college and career-ready and that they have their College and Career interest available unsupported at our school and so here is like the breakdown of our El Cap and then I'm not sure if it shows but this is our bed cycle report Action Plan different things that we're doing to support having strong teachers having clear behavioral and cultural expectations and academic expectations making sure families are in is in our school like you're all involved and then making sure that we are continuing to improve academic achievement and and progress for a School's first school what are some questions that we have about a wasp report I'll be submitting that in the next month any questions that we have about this is very similar to El Cap so wanted to make sure I shared with everyone though and if no questions I'll go ahead and move us along in the agenda I think we should be towards public comments and close how can you make a photo a house so she can share the agenda host yep was that there we go so now we're going to public comment we have three minutes and this is a time for you to talk anything that is even if he's not the entire agenda so we have three minutes for that but if it's something that you would like to ask Alexa for the next meeting this is a time for that too if nobody come in I'll move it back to him as the more I have to go ahead and adjourn our meeting okay I'm being for 10 meeting at Jordans thank you have a nice day thank you everyone
