Shared unless there is anyone opposed miss tomorrow you could share that it's the meeting record has been approved the meeting record has been all right let's go ahead and go back to my agenda and so I missed your call sounded and Mr chive must I'm trying to message if they're not able to attend wanted to make sure that we knew we've got some really fun things happening we've got some dances going on with you got some Garrett days especially during the Valentine's Day there's a Valentine's Day movie night for the high school were super excited about all the things that are happening at school and really excited about the program our girls are soccer team for high school specifically is battling for its first league title today are the girls basketball team just won League last week and said the thing that I love at our school and I'll slow down a brown bottom I love that we are obviously focused on academics but we are building our Sports programs and our clubs are activities and so very excited about the growth that we paid especially winning leave titles when before we can barely make a a ball into the basket for basketball we can barely get kids on the field so it's just really nice to see the different advanced placement courses the college courses we have on psychology what is it going to be happening bringing that back pandemic and so many other different programs. Just wanted to make sure I shared and celebrated some of the growth and thank you to our high school administration and mr. call Sanford Middle School a tar pit engagement Staff last Thursday we had an awesome 8th grade to ninth grade transition meeting with a ton of families a ton of information as well as amazing boo boo that I definitely enjoyed so let's go ahead and continue on there's a lot of information to share if we could scroll down to the agenda I think it's the Alcatel part which is the biggest part of today's meeting but I can't I'm not sure if it's if that's what's next on the screen I predict that is Al Capp alright so here's the the really heavy part a lot of information coming up next I think I'm going to go ahead and share my screen Owen and host if you can give me access to share and again house I'm still not having access to share screen if someone can provide access I perfect I will go ahead and present give me a thumbs-up or raise the roof if you could see the full screen going to bring back at 90s reference there y'all perfect perfect to our spring El Cap educational partnering gauge memory this is our opportunity to share feedback on our elk app so as you know we've talked about this in the past so a lot of this is review so I'll go quickly through this local control funding formula is really about providing schools that serve low-income Scholars English learners Foster youth making sure that schools like ours have the resources that they need and then the local control accountability plan is about setting goals for a community tracking progress and making accountable and using our funds in the right way for our Scholars and Families so why do we use the El Cap it's the give you as community members teachers parents students the opportunity to give voice on how we use our money and so your role is as an educational partner and Community engagement partner so the other part is Title 1 so there's alcap and then also we receive Title 1 funding which is designed to provide additional resources first communities with children with significant opportunity gaps to make sure that we're providing the tools and resources all of our students so in order to we were all required to create a school plan for student achievement SPS hey which we use are all captive serve the same purpose so again this information you had you all at educational Partners I provide feedback to us and we're focused on ABC academic achievement beliefs and behaviors so having a state-supported making sure I Centre academically successful but also have a culture of collaboration so some of the things that we've done is we've increased our staffing and a peas elt and electives and in the future we're going to be making plans to adjust our budget and rethinking stopping based on enrollment targets so here are some of our network-wide priorities for Alliance at Alliance we want our students to be scholarly thinkers powerful communicators Wellness speakers resilient learners Community Advocates we want our students to be very well-rounded academically culturally and in supporting the community with these priorities were focused on strong teaching and learning having a thriving school where students and adults they belong and we're setting up our students for future success and helping to support with anti-racism and so again these Network priorities were continuing to build out these plans and so your voice matters. Like I know I'm a lot of background beats Dundee slides 24 but all of us home office teams families schools like us Scholars families we are all in this together so your voice batter a lot do you know you're more than welcome the ship be back at these. I see meetings with me in the prince copy of the principal's town halls or simply talking to parent engagement so here's our timeline for participation you see the things that we've done already and now we're on the spring educational partner engagement time January through February next month we're going to review the budget together so wanted to go do our data review I think you remember in December and January we talked about so in October we had talked about student scheman data chronic absenteeism and other fact like grave passage rate graduation rate we're going to continue that in the last two months we talked about some issues around vaping and how we can address which be partnering with two more eggs to do more Community engagement and now we're going to review some of our data so again, captain one worried that we have is that we've had higher chronic absenteeism compared to Alliance 24 and 25% compared to 20 the some things that were trying to do you know a lot of it has been covid cases but we're trying to make sure that we do more parent engagement doing home visit and then trying to provide programs to get kids excited about coming and so that's what we're hoping to do that lower that chronic absenteeism right how do you think about these numbers SSA see any other ideas aside from communicating with parents add and you. Making sure we do fun programs at school and doing home visit any other ideas for what we can do to try to get and it's it's again these are students that have been asking a lot year-over-year but what are some ideas that we have to help get them in school stop Asia so feel free to on you do you get simply put it in the chat or we think that those are the right steps I'm good with that as well is there any way to provide clear steps to everyone because I think that there are I've had set students who have had chronic absences I don't know if nobody noticed or if they didn't know what they could do but it took me like really power through to the parents into the office to get you know to get it we're trapped like working on a structure now but I think if we had something that was clear both to staff and to parents about the importance what are some of the steps what are things that they can do at home and what are some of the things that teachers can do in classes I think that would be helpful I'm going to act that's like the West Side from the attendance policies and procedures are in the handbook but trying to do more proactively and night if person mix. they think that knowing that it's in the handbook doesn't always make it something that we and not enforced but that we follow through is because it's in the handbook and I think that if we can maybe add it hedis or you know talk about it in the parent Center coming up with a solid plan that we can complex wide make more uniform with uniformed but something we know or like we're reminded of I think that when you have a lot of students or for whatever reason you know life gets hard we forget how important school is and that it is their right to be here definitely thank you sorry I added that and Indian on fortunately it's the same family as year-over-year and so we're we've been doing the home visits like involve sing other agencies but always good to hear the other our other team members are another thing that we looked at is are our i-Ready assessment results and our students are still recovering from the covid pandemic which put a lot of kids Behind especially in our community and so we will align the mighty like malaria Marine is significant as shown specially of malaria like we're improving students if there are three or more grade levels below no one wants to see 35% of kids the lost at like 3 or more grade levels below right now and wants 27% so while we're significantly better than Alliance or just the local community that's not what we want for a lifetime icstor continuing topical teaching models we've partnered with Encore for stem tutoring and now we're going to start with their tutors that's going to do daily math tutoring at the 45 four grade level who are significantly behind and so we're doing that and more observation and so any other ideas that we might have a side from co-teaching play more frequent classroom observation using the car rubric getting a ton of tutoring time any other ideas that we have for this I have an idea I think aligning as a complex on i-Ready expectations would be wonderful I know this year 7th grade aligned that every week students should complete to i-Ready at 8 better hire a really strict on that it was like okay that's the great that we can put for the week you know that way Scholars are practicing and if they don't get that 80% they're remaking it but it's kind of holding them accountable slot with Z that growth and I think if I was a complex we aligned on it we might be more positive Trends especially in my ready when that's when they're but they're practicing yep like that I thought I did that one as well the next piece of data that we looked at with a spec performance and so we looked at the Caps performance before you'll see in an English language arts so we've historically been and continue to be higher than then our district and continuing to push to be one of the best in state in summer continuing intervention and remedy you'll see it both English and math so here's our English data 57.7% the map was significantly lower higher than higher than our local contacts but still in area of struggle and we talked about the tutoring in Edition professional development and intervention what ideas do we have to try to continue to improve English and math performance cast and Gladys love to hear from the teachers or our parents or whoever like to share like what are some ideas especially as parents or you know even if it's you know where we're all kind of parents whether it's our students or not what are some ideas that we can get used to help our kids do better on the state test yeah I know for me it wasn't like my favorite time of year taking test as a kid I know that all of us probably have our own test anxiety but always curious if people have I yes we're trying to improve scores I can also speak I'm not I think we need more support in curriculum development or refurbishment I love our curriculum and it is high leverage we do practice the same writing skills over and over and we don't offer enough time to practice other skills at their also test the skills are also repeated a lot they're only using one contact say it would be great as soon as I saw them in a variety of contacts so that they know how to adapt their writing to any type of reading that they are given I just I wish I could see it a little bit more High leverage it seems like the kids are really used to it so that you know can create some like boredom or some issues of like oh I know how to do this already so I'm just not going to try I just think that there's so much more that they're capable of and that they're also looking for that challenge so maybe just like real just looking up the creek out again I got a new review of curriculum the variety of tasks new challenge I'm also going to add two motivational techniques like whether it's incentives for kids the performer to grow constant review of data I think you know Carl Stone will get talked about the scores a lot and and so continue now that culture complex slide and try pushing i-Ready I think we can continue to get better all right I'll keep us going and so the next part is like the California dashboard your system information for everyone and you look at this slide these are the dimmer ratings that schools have on the California dashboard in the bottom left red is bad right like red is not good so far family is everyone participating the school that we want to be kind of like a National Blue Ribbon School is in the upper right corner that means status and change that means you we're very high performer and you're improving kids really well so ideally you want to be in the blue and green categories red orange yellow kind of like stop lights writer 10 * red orange and yellow either mean like stop bad or you know like slow down or you need to do something differently and then green and blue we want to make sure we're there Southern California dashboard was created in 2017 and it measures a variety of different indicators English math college readiness graduation rate English learner performance and suspension rates so you know because of covid-19 able to review we haven't had data up until this year but some things that do we did want to share is it and remembering the colors that I talked about what areas would you say that Alliance MIT specifically needs to get better at but looking at the colors on the on the chart absenteeism yeah right are we set it already we've got this a math I think math is it's so maddening that are English Learners and then areas were actually pretty good which are the medium and very high our graduation rate is incredible our English performance even given our you know we have a large we have large population of students who are barely at like a lot of newcomers to the country learning English for the first time they're doing well and then one thing that it looks weird the suspension rate it says low but you actually want to be low and suspension Ray cuz that means you're not suspending that many kids so that's another green good area and so as we continued as you continue to push for next time with our next meeting enter budget in March and so some things that we put on the budget based on our conversations in the past making sure we have more stopping for APS steam intervention ELD intervention food in special education what Counseling in psychologist that the increase in Richmond opportunities more biria and just like rethinking like our staffing but these are some things that were looking at for next year any additional things you want me to try to spend more money on I have one I think we could really benefit from a curriculum developer someone who can help us differentiate like worksheets and help us believed dive into our curriculum because while we all use like a r or different things sometimes it's not user-friendly or it's not the the most acceptable to our Scholars adhere likes that rethinking stopping and potentially considering curriculum development people I could be expensive so even considering hiring teachers over the summer to do that work that way when we come back not work that we're struggling with is one less load that we have to worry about throughout the school year love you I have one but it's Miss expensive we need more space yeah I definitely know that I have work it on space I don't know if I'll put it on this thing but even with the fitness center like we're trying to find a space but I like and doing some reconstruction were also doing new construction like we put the shade in the court we're looking to raise the the fencing in the front without making it look like a prison but like really keeping our nice look but making it a little I think for some of us who are who work with confidential information like having a place for those students to not only tests and stuff but to also feel like they can knock on the door and they know that one of their case managers or you know we would be there for them I just wanted to throw that out there office space like yeah I mean yeah intestines based on just office space but like the combo of office and testing space because there's a lot of times that we have to find places to do like some of these confidential testing and it can be and hold all of that going to say multi-purpose face sounds good I had to say Justin's if I can time in one of them would probably one was a suggestion for where this potential fitness center could be there is a lot of space where the bike racks are the side of the school that is unoccupied I think we could refer past that room or like build walls around it and a ceiling and make that a potential fitness center it's has enough space to like put a couple bikes in there but I know we had some weights a couple of different devices you know we can repurpose it to potentially be the new fitness center and one of the other things yep I remember doing some photos one of the other things that I've think what I helped in general kind of piggyback on Miss O'Connor would be too especially for IEPs and more delicate meetings to have an interpreter that is readily available just in terms of compliance and you know transparency for the parents cat like a neutral partner if are you thinking in-house translation or like hiring out side of I think maybe hiring to have that neutrality to know for the parent to know like hey this this is a neutral party they're here solely to translate like there's no interest like in the school to translate one or another way not that it's happened but just for the parents to have that neutrality not so those I'm definitely considering those who would you give upset is Dad all of our staff here what would you give up to have those rights there's a finite amount of money putting money into translation services putting money into curriculum development over summer what are we willing to give up if we can if we can just pay for us you know my children want on all kinds of stuff I can't give him all kind I can't give him everything but what what are some things that we might be if you look at the list but would you be willing to give up if we added some of those things I think if I'm not in correct Canela have made a really good point about the staff getting all of the supplies just to everybody blanketed I think that that isn't necessary for every semester I mean how many staplers do you need supplies got it yeah when you look at this list what would you be willing to give up to have some of those the things in bold I mean I I work with translation services all the time I wouldn't give up translation services I wouldn't for the sake of all the other stuff I think the neutrality portion of it might not be as high as SI unit for sure have translation but you're open tomorrow yeah absolutely but translation for sure no thanks I'll so what we're going to do review and we're going to add you know like nobody's not that like counseling we have one per grade level which is unique there's no school that has like it's particularly at the middle school level there's no school that's going to go to Miley Cyrus that has three counselors that's what I'm trying to get rid of Calpers it just as you think about like what types of things we would have to cut in order to get some additional things and those are things that those are things that we discussed at the next meeting I know that we did we've been working on less psychologist and that has a personal effect but I think that Outsourcing that was if it can be reliable isn't a bad bad way to go either so just something to think about. It's the last thing I'm talking about like title one we bought a shared the thing that I wanted to share here and then this is this was our bell schedule for this year and so this I believe is one of the last items we're going to discuss today yeah perfect then I'll just share that then I'll share the public comment. But so are Belk right now for Middle School we do pretty much 8 to 3:15 every day and we have this like late start on Wednesdays high school Monday through Wednesday is like all periods days and then Thursday Friday I like these block schedule days what did what did we think about these schedules like and for parents have you been okay with that schedules that your kids have been on I feel that the schedule is convenient in the world help like for example my son takes the bus and I feel that just you know having that opportunity for him to take the bus give it to me enough time to get to school so for me I feel it's beneficial, and it's also beneficial that there's two or say like to opportunities for him to get there with with the butt so I'm very blessed and I'm so thankful that the school offers an opportunity for us you know one thing that I would and I wanted to put it out to the team I'm debating the late start there's a part of me that wants to go back to a traditional like 8 a.m. start for every day and do an early dinner missile I'm on Wednesdays as opposed to a late start parents. What are your thoughts on that for from middle school cuz then we would also would have to swap the buses cuz I'm does high school early release days we end up switching buses but wanted to get the thoughts from the staff and parents hear thoughts on doing an early release day as opposed to a late start I actually would agree I know it's a lot of the parents sometimes gets difficult or sometimes they because the it's not always consistent but it's a late start there's a lot of confusion so they like all might the buzzer like is the bus coming so I would I would second the changing the late start so we just an early dismissal I know that the lot of my kids in the sixth grade the in consistency trips them up quite a bit and it does the teachers as well I am I often forget like what time lunch is so and cuz it's not always the same in a late start my daughter does it starts but it's always it never changes every time every single middle school every single Tuesdays were shortened days and so that becomes part of the routine so it doesn't yeah I think that anything that you can do just to make it you know her consistent would be beneficial yes definitely consistent consistency will be key here because there is some things were like what is a Wacky Wednesday I love it you called it Wacky Wednesday cuz I think that's how it feels so that's why I wanted to get your feedback cuz I think that's one of the shifts that were most likely going to make just the support parents do cuz oh I have parents that pick up for both middle school and high school and it's confusing for them especially on those Wednesday so I appreciate the feedback here and said those are some changes that we're going to make with that late start doing some different times trying to figure out like advisory and so we want to make sure we're supporting the professional development as well as the social emotional needs of our our students I'm glad that ideas that we had are backed up by my ssac members and then to close out our next governing board meeting is Wednesday March 15th so that's in about a month and a half if you're available to attend there'll be a 20-minute alcap public hearing so if you have feedback about El Cap and so we would love to have you attend and then finally do you have any if you have any feedback for us about El Cap I'm going to exit the screen now I just shared a link for people if they want to share feedback about that concludes my portion I've got I've talked a lot I know I've been talking about cuz I could feel it in my throat and I know I thought I was feeling it or throw it.
