sorry for the most started expect the reason why are the trends turn from middle school to high school so important is because actually research has shown that entering 9th grade on 9th graders Chan the key word is can not always but they can experience a decrease in academic achievement motivation behavioral problems attendance problems and stress and fear again the key word is it doesn't always happen but these are things that can happen when entering High School Jellystone importance wearing send text. this workshop and that's why you want to go ahead and support your Scholars and that's why we have our Middle School on this side and our high school on this side we want to work together and support our Scholars with that transition from middle to high school Kalahari I'm so at risk students are more most likely to drop out or not graduate on time so I can another reason why we want to go ahead and give everyone the tools and talk about how we can support our Scholars really crucified I said to help his transition schools and parents must work together in a partnership in order to go ahead and create that Seamless Web of support so again we want to go ahead and work together at school and parents to go ahead and support our Scholars through this transition so during this time your teammate you're you know going from middle school to high school we're going to we're going to say we're assuming that these colors are teenagers so teenagers are going through a lot I want to support do teenagers and their personal identity they're trying to figure out who they are full Moving On High School sometimes turn with fitting into a social group they want to find out where they're comfortable when they want to go ahead and and be social and meet new people in high school sometimes there is pure pressure right so the group will always go ahead and there's that pure pressure sometimes teenagers are going to be concerned with dating because she when they get older around 1516 they want to go ahead and drive and then also they start planning for college which is great as well but as it is great it can Adela stress too and then last but not least not not limited to this the last but not least I sometimes also just taking responsibility for their future so obvious things on this is what your teenagers think about going to at least on that la presion de Los Amigos what is wanting to eat so we've all been teenagers before so we do understand maybe what that what our students are installers are going through but of course you know times and these are just against surface-level these are some things that are Scholars may be facing with their transition from middle school. all right so what type of adjustments will your child have to make in high school we're going to go over that in the next happy birthday all right so just in the high school new school environment on it really depends so obviously we have our High School side in our Middle School site as well so if our Scholars are transitioning from Valera Middle School to Murray High School on the transition may be might not be as drastic if they go to a different school but none the less a trans listen to a new school environment is what they're dealing with and what they are going to see IBC Bank on Oahu number two college preparatory program but you'll start to see that a lot of the classes that your students are taking are preparing them for college whether that is like an honors class or an A AP pass which stands for advanced placement but again the classes are really geared towards getting them unprepared for college a competitive grade oriented culture are we start to go ahead and introduce GPA and grade in Middle School, and it is very important in middle school but even more so important in high school where every grade counts and every class counts same thing with them or with credits every time a student passed the class they get it as they get a certain amount of credits for that class and it continues to add up and we'll go over a little bit about credits in a few a few slots a number 5% less nurturing and more self-directed I would argue that middle school and I are very nurturing but let's be honest there is a difference between is going to number six more diverse teachers in ears in Middle School sometimes our Scholars they are staying with the same two or three teachers throughout the day in high school they're going to have teachers that are different. the number 5 self-directed I'm of course you know we have a a really tight knit culture we have a really tight neck ulcer on the middle school and the high school side so your students are definitely going to get support they are expected to be a little bit more independent and again self-directed independent when completing High School you mentioned earlier in high school on so just a little bit so in order to remain college and graduation eligible in high school students must pass all their classes with at least a c or better so in the high school and on the side instead of using apps you're out of Lies We have n p which stands for no pass so they're in high school and has to be a way that we can figure out how we're going to go ahead and either redo that class or makeup every class counts real life 9th grade really matters on 9th grade is where you start your Scholars start to go ahead and build the foundation for all four years of high school so every class counts every class, and that's why I want to go ahead and have this so that we were letting me know hey we're here to support you and refuse to go ahead and give you some tips and then also in route to graduate high school you do need a minimum of 230 credits so again that starts in ninth grade so that way we can continue to build up every single year important play Portishead. so Alliance is Alliance a mighty is of course a part of a larger Alliance charter school network and we can't stress enough that we are college-ready so that's why we stress raise and then also College as well so we may want our Scholars to start looking into schools the one that you see at the bottom but we are here to go ahead and support them all throughout 9th grade all the way out to to senior years Alliance college-ready and Anderson it's pretty much that's kind of what we talked about in the last line again 9th grade is the year every grade study the counselor college right in middle school grades are super important I do not want to take that away for College college colleges are looking at what students are doing in high school so that's where the grades really matter for consider Asus predator suggests right over the email University of california-los and it has ideas for for students to go ahead and start prepping for college and is a formidable through you CLA operation is not necessarily just Pacific Produce Ela it does provide wonderful wonderful resources and information to Prep students on what they should be doing and what they can be looking into each and every great so I'm a receiver 9th grade 7th grade and 11th grade so depending on what year so again this is a great website on we'll talk through it again you CLA or what wonderful school that's located in Los Angeles about 40 minutes over the hill so if you want your kiddos to stay close by maybe start thinking hey UCLA's isan this is what you want them to start thinking about but we do want them to go ahead and start thinking about different colleges in different areas so that way when it comes to senior year and they are apply for schools they feel a little bit more ready and they feel a little bit more prepared but again will be there to support them throughout the process I won't go over the entire website cuz that would be a whole nother presentation but I pulled up eighth grade I'm in as you saw they had nine 10th and 11th as well but it's just sharing what you can do or what you can go ahead and look at with your student if you're through the it has academic success personal growth and it to work together so like I mentioned in the past slides 9th grade and in just in general Middle School and High School our bodies are changing our emotion we're going to different emotions that maybe we haven't felt before we're going through different situations so these are ways that we can go ahead and what are students are Scholars academically but also socially and emotionally and physically so as you know despite being going on with a lot of these but a lot of it really boils down to talking your Scholars asking them questions seeing how they're feeling but the first one and the second one listen and be sensitive to your Scholars concern and then be supportive and assure them that they will be comfortable and successful in the new school setting a lot of students end up adjusting but again just being there through that. ABC phonics 3 and 4 be consistent and fair when it comes to rules I'm at home and then at I'm a lot of our students of course maybe it doesn't seem like they like consistency and some rules but it again specially at this time they really need that that's also make academic achievements and going College of priority so really looking at that you CLA website and again just kind of just reaffirming like a you know college is an option and we're going to go ahead and help you get there being important 5 and 6 together learn about a through G college preparatory so-called Preparatory courses I won't dive into that but this is something that your Scholars will definitely learn an advisory so counting advisory in 9th grade and then also at 8. And then also make sure your child has the active study and time management super important river high school and then we're future futuristic. it support you're not always going to be there so we want to make sure that we are letting them know we're going to be there for support but you also have to take care and be independent and learn about being responsible for yourself and your enemy laughing at least on this side make sure your students have a quiet workplace studying to do their homework weather. I landed some more suggestions and I will 2/9 and 10 check their homework but don't complete it for them I know we definitely want to help support but we actually we do that we don't want to do the work for them and then of course talk to me talk to your Scholars and then just start like me their progress you all have access you should have access to PowerSchool you what you should have access to a parent Square as well so you can go ahead and check progress or them and then if you have any questions you can definitely chill free to go ahead and send an email or pants for a message to the students counselor or to your Scholars counselor or teacher number 11 and 12 there will be some homework for specific class that's okay sometimes I'll just do I work inside the class but maybe if we don't have any homework encourage them to study or read read a little extra outside was assigned or even explored different colleges and careers I need my Lowe's app 12 encourage your child to set goals in in advice what I work on with a eighth grade is setting smart goals so I'm so if you looked at up you'll see that every letter stands for something on whether you want to make sure that your students are setting specific and realistic goals and help them connect school with their future plans and then 13 just teaching your child about the importance of respecting others will high school again were growing up we're getting to learn about Styles and what we like and decide what we want to go ahead and make sure that we respecting others while they're transitioning and growing up as well 14 and 15 maintain a healthful and positive attitude and last but not least to do what you are already doing like you going to school event service volunteers on when Scholars see that that you are buying into their school and what you're doing they may not say it but they it really does make a huge difference because they see that you are really giving in and putting in the weather are doing so continue to do what you're doing the parents seminars and then also school events as volunteers Muncie Indiana. are you emo haciendo and then just a few Time closing remarks as we close offer today so maybe some other things that we consider doing and then so busy specific for Middle School moving on to high school finding out what our students are expected to learn in the 9th grade and then again I don't even 9th grade but 10th 11th 12th right reaching out to our students before our kids ever so I can like I mentioned I'm reaching out to parents we're sending emails just checking in to see what we can go ahead and do as parents and us and Educators to go ahead and help our students at home in inside out even though and then just say you think on what they'll learn this is just the sific tonight. But again on this does set the sound ation for moving on in the 10th 11th and 12th alright so in high school their first-year 9th grade there will be in this is place on the following the following categories do Algebra English language arts they're going to start learning foreign language which we have is Spanish biology and then also advisory which I mentioned before, they should be used because that is something that we have on the Middle School side but again it's something that we reinforce their small Focus support routes where we go over things that that that review academic social-emotional any the any of types of lessons that's where we go ahead and put them through / through classes in English okay so that's pretty much it for the for the presentation today but we have a few minutes so I wanted to see you maybe if there are any questions that hopefully I can answer but if I can't answer maybe I can get the answer and give it back to you but I just want to give everybody a space wonderful question for 8th grade I can speak for I believe this goes for high school as well I have to double-check but I can see for eighth grade for sure if 10 hours is the minimum they have to so that's the expectation and then that's it do the 10 hours then they can go ahead and call my cell that's part of the combination it says 10 + because we want to go ahead and and let students know the importance of doing community hours not only because it looks good for college applications but if we're helping out our community that helps build their self-esteem that helps build the community as well so again but we want to push students to go ahead and do more if it's if it's possible testing out things are opening up Minnie Mouse PS4 games eBay and then go all the way you're in 9th grader and a 6th grader but she seems to put more pressure on the pain at least at this point eight she and he's doing good good one of these days and I want you to stop pressuring me because I'm already older and I I'm already be responsible and I know what like I need to do two month or two months so she wants or should I let him for a little bit and then what is that we can go ahead and set up a meeting or have a discussion with the counselor as well as Toronto just to answer your question here I think having that having that pressure after having an expectation and saying hey you know I know but you're doing so well and I believe that you can continue to keep that up but not so much putting pressure because again we talked about in a few slides before is that this is where students start to become a little bit more independent so they want to show you that you have you have taught me so well so I'm going to go ahead and continue to do that but on my own right so sometimes you sometimes we have to take a step back and monitor and watch but at the same I trust that you know what we have taught them while they were younger is going to go it's just going to stick but I still think she's being like you don't like like setting expectations saying hey you know I believe that we can go ahead and hit this GPA but also just giving the student a little bit a little bit of space and saying you know I trust that you can go ahead and get there I'm on your own as well and then if you start to see sleep a little bit set that expectation for 3.8 and she did mention that she did with him at the end of the day you get to decide. Like what works because every every scholar every kid is different right Sometimes some students maybe need a little bit more then I'll just really depends but I think you know if if your scholar actually stood up and said hey you know can I have some space we want to respect that and give them to him or her that responsibility but again still like you know we can still put a little expectation of a little pressure but still we want to see them succeed and just like kind of monitor is it really depends cuz every scholar so different Palomino so I do have to start heading out to the other side and I'm definitely open to answering them email I can drop my email as well and then of course you can always reach out to your grade level counselor depending on what grade they are but I am more than happy to go ahead I'll share this this presentation and it has the link to the yard at UCLA what do you tell a website that I shared it
