I'll be covering for mr. mclaneco are high school principal I just wanted to share updates for all of our ssac members as well as our public year that are listening into the meeting just some updates about our distance learning model for any of our families I'll go ahead and share my screen now app for any of our families that didn't know we are continuing with distance learning through the end of the school year so we're continuing with this with our model we did make some minor to Sue are middle school and high school schedule so on the Middle School side we increased the amount of time Tuesday through Friday and to have longer and longer breaks Tuesday you Friday and then Monday we've shifted to a community-wide advisory led by Administration and counselors and then more asynchronous work throughout the day in addition do the ELA history and math and science support on the high school side we've added small group intervention time to be able to support our students needs as changed up the schedule a little bit or advisory and so those are some changes based on the needs to support our students who were earning NP grades and wanting to provide more small group instruction or intervention what you see on Mondays as well as Tuesday through Friday can an answer for small group and intervention for families that weren't aware this is our break down so while it's all teachers on Mondays there is a staggered schedule Tuesday through Friday for high school and then the high school said there was some adjustments around the meeting schedule so what grade levels are having community meeting whereas Middle School we have community meeting every Monday and we are now moving forward with full commute we meeting so we added a new Zoom account to be able to accommodate all of our middle school students at 1 and so while we worked out some Kinks this past time I were excited about moving forward with our upcoming eating at to provide more time ever teachers but then also more time for our students engage with the counselors directly not participate Monro brake we just wanted to remind everyone that we are really trying to motivate and Inspire our students to have their cameras on and so while a student is it going to be penalized for not open camera we are really trying to motivate in in in Santa buys the use of cameras so the participation rubric communicates this as well as like the work with our task rubric making sure our students are completing all work with the criteria for success and so one of the things that we're doing we have a program called caught being a zoom leader or caught on camera so if it ministration is there any middle school or High School Zoom if we see a student's camera on they would get a raffle ticket and we are giving out at the end of the year a flat screen TV Dodger tickets to work did the world champion Dodgers games whenever we could go back to games and then the grand prizes for both the middle school and high school is a PS5 so students are learning raffle tickets anytime SRT ankur catches our kids on camera number example Miss Universe Miss Cassandra they would automatically get some raffle tickets from Mr tiangco Sibley for having the camera so that's the the push us to really motivate our students and then insert some improving semester 1 grade so we shared this in our parent meetings are for the semester ended we shared it during the parents seminar this past Wednesday if our students earn a higher grade second semester in the class that grade will replace their first semester grade and the only directions to this is if they aren't an NP first semester the highest grade replacement would be a c minus or even if they going to be the greater b a c minus so here is an example if a student earned for example a c minus in the first semester but earned an a in the second semester they'll actually get an A are both semesters of the class so they would have an A and an a which is a four and a four on their on their final transcripts so that's the first example got a B in the first semester and got a C they actually don't they don't gain points but they won't lose Poise they would still keep their be and then maintain their see but our goal is not to have our students drop their grades another example here if a student earned it and pee like I said in the first semester and they improved for example student got a B they would boost up their first semester grade from an NP to a c minus and then they would also keep their higher B grade so this student not only earned credit for both Masters but also boosted up their GPA and then finally if an end if a seaman gets a 10 p.m. both semesters Unfortunately they have the NP in both semesters as we we want a reward for improvement and effort not for continued lack of work or lack of effort so with that I wanted to open it up to any questions from our ssac about some of these paws the changes and some schedule adjustments but I'd left open it up to the SSA see if they have any questions cuz you are go back to the first slide with the A's confirm okay I think I had read it wrong this is the first slide yeah okay for some reason I thought that I had read it. If they had an npn I got an eighth and they going to name but I'm glad that it's not that the best I could get is a c minus in the forest Princeton Master but they could get there a if they got an A that's a great clarifying question any other questions about the policies I know teachers you're the ones implementing it but if there's any parent parent SSA see members are students I'd be glad to answer any clarifying questions here listen to your uncle did all of this information go out to the pier I know it's confusing that's why we keep bringing it up and parent meetings just so that we can reinforce it but miss Cassandra that's a great point so we will continue to send the communication and remind them of this policy and and I'll also a have this in our community meeting for the next couple Mondays I'm saying that because I have a few like I said we're ghosts students and did not see them no contact I tried to contact them all everything from last semester and these two students came into class and now they're doing three in floor so they could do the work so it's not distance learning and and I talked about this everyday to my students too and I'm going to show them this again especially about that a day at the second semester end that C- and how that can turn to an a that's amazing it really is no and I hope our students understand that you opportunity that they have and take advantage of it cuz I know our staff is working hard and I know our families are working hard for the students have to do their part so that they can earn a grade yeah cuz I know the parents are working their working trying to help the kids and the adults are said just stay as long as the kids either part we could boost his grades up any last comments or questions about the distance learning updates otherwise we'll continue on with agenda just to clarify mistertango there's no averaging or anything the better grade just replaces the first semester is an NP the best that they can that for both semesters is the seed for the first semester C- I think I thank you very much I will now transition into when it will now transition in I didn't see you on just shared about schedule updates really trying to dig deeper on SG like a small group instruction on both sides of a complex I talked about the grading policies anything that you wanted to add I'll just add some of the other things were doing so sorry I'm late hi everyone I actually was meeting with our executive team at home office to learn more and get some payback so that's why I'm late. Yeah I just want to highlight did you mention the caught on camera raffle I did a little bit but I know there's a lot that you're doing a lot of the teams doing tomorrow Bay kids if you want to talk about that yeah so we go along with the grading policy we want we want to bring more kids participating training cameras on B Moorpark community store gari talk about the raffle which I'm very excited about the kids are really excited to hear about that today we're going to continue to advertise that mr. Campos is is leading Us in more Esports sorry if I'm just reiterating stuff but we're having multiple new Esports this semester for high school students unfortunates only for high school students because it is like Varsity Sport and we changed our community time for for for high school to Mondays and we're getting a lot more participation and attendance they're celebrating kids for their gpas and participation as well as having a griffin of the month so we're really trying to to highlight as many students as possible as frequently as possible to really to continue to build what we had on campus is a strong and mighty community okay thank you making like a ice to the next section of our agenda is transitioning into new business which as we know we we continue to work on our El Cap in this meeting at Garden give me a quick thumbs-up gif the pace of talking is slow enough I just wanted to make sure that we are going slow enough for you okay looks like Idina is caught up now so I'm going to go ahead and present on RL cap I'd say this is our spring a stakeholder engagement so we'll continue to do this as we as we progress through the year and perfect cutting I have you on camera so now I could see if you're if you're caught up I don't want to stress you out too much of translation so that what is lcff said the local control funding formula as I've shared before change the way that schools receive funding so it provides more money to schools with underserved Scholars especially communities where there are free and reduced lunch family like low-income students English Learners Foster Youth and it focuses on eight priorities basic Services Common Core implementation parent engagement climate course access Etc what is El Cap El Cap is the local control accountability plan which acts as a tool for schools to be able to plan for their state funding and how to allocate their state funding the schools must focus on improving outcomes of you're going to receive this additional funding you have to make sure that it's improving outcomes by setting long-term goals tracking progress toward call Enis touring accountability like making sure we're following through on that plan and we must use those funds to serve some of those underserved communities in our schools why do we use the El Cap so the El Cap allows for a school Community to improve student outcomes by making funding decisions locally which is why we go to our ssac to give us feedback directly about our budget increased transparency share what are the different funding priorities striving for continuous Improvement and then Gathering input four different solutions that support our underserved students and so this is another example of us receiving feedback and using it what is your role in El Cap as you know us as a Stacy for us it's about having Community engagement using are leveraging our stakeholders so in our meeting was like this by providing updates to all you about her finances in our data and then also allow you to express your opinions to shape our local control accountability plan to make sure that our students receive these needed service so I think we know what the impact of covid-19 for this past year that was the learning continuity and attendance plan which replace the El Caporal 2021 so weird reviewing this learning continuity in attendance plan rather than El Cap this year and then after that we'll go back to a new three-year elcap and one of the challenges as as I think we all know Cass was cancel the state test was canceled in his past year so we don't have any recent student achievement data but whenever we do have that data will continue to review it so the first thing that we wanted to talk about is our average daily attendance and so here in 2021 are these are subgroups sell 98 in terms of marine high school and Valera Middle Academy so one of the couple things that we noticed is is that as a complex we've averaged about 96% attendance for grade 6 12 IR middle school students have maintained strong attendance throughout the year and we're really pushing to maintain that right as we go and then our high school needs a little Improvement and so that's something that we are working on the ways that we're trying to address this we are increasing incentives for engagement participation we adjusted our grading policy as we shared before since then advise Improvement weave bide our schedules on both sides of the complex to provide more support to our students and then we're implementing a transparent collaborative tracking form so one of the things our teachers talked about was having one a one-stop-shop to see how students are being communicated with and that was one of the initiatives or documents are spreadsheet that we added for this semester ssac any questions about our average daily attendance if not I'll continue on to the next stopping it's so again the state really wanted us to focus on attendance getting our students logged in participating in instruction and that's me rate so far this year assignment completion we we tend to have higher rates of completion cuz there's some things in our in our Modern Life in our braiding where we are there are still alive one so they receive credit for having turn in an assignment but that's not the true measure and so another thing that were looking at are also NP rates that we want to decrease the number of students who are receiving NP grades by supporting them in in their work so a few things that we talked about already or engagement and participation modifying our schedule but the other new thing is that we've increase the amount of professional element focused on student engagement social emotional learning and then working to connect with our families and so you'll see it in our professional development like each week there is some kind of like engagement strategy or building on engagement strategy and then you also see it our work around Compass Camp which is about social socio-emotional learning that were really trying to implement I'm doing the the connection from this year going into next year so we believe that when students are are supported happy they're able to take engage better and when when our teachers are able to engage directly with suit when they have more cameras time when they have more engagement time are students do better so this is about assignments and I'll I'll go into the next one around NP grades so these are life and not passing grades for high school you'll see on this chart like the percentages of students who are earning A's and different classes all the way to end peas and their son missing I'd like a small percentage like those are some students who have individual circumstances but these are the grades that were assigned from NP to a for all grade level high school and then similarly these are this is the data for all of our middle school students so anyways like the percentage of students who earn days and then all the way down to a peas and one of the things that we really noticed as a trend is that the large for the proportion of our student population they either did really well they earn B+ is an A's so I just seen here like that there's a good percentage in the B+ to a range or they did really they had a really difficult time like you'll notice that the percentages in the middle actually significantly lower than like that and like the lows and the highs so we noticed that there's a wide range which tells us that students are either thriving in distance learning or really struggling and so again we we lovers a lot of professional development strategies a lot of the grading policy updates the engagement of participation but I wanted a big I wanted to pause here so I did the attendance I'm pausing at acai no passing grade ssac what questions do we have about or comments do we have about what you saw with at work completion and then the end key rates or like grade rates for our middle school and high school does it does it sound like this make sense based on what you saw from your child as a student from your from your at the teacher and make like a feel free to chime in here as well but is there any like does this make sense this is what you notice as well and if no comments if that makes sense then I can move on yeah but again it's like we really want move away from we really want to support we don't want it to feel like the haves versus the have-nots we want to be able to do to try to meet as many of our students needs as possible during this time there's a request to show the high school slide again alright so again this is something that we do on a dress that's why we increase like our professional development this is why we're doing the social-emotional checks is why we are adding more grams to motivate and Inspire students I have a question and my question is for the NP and I'm not talking about the core class I have a question about NPCs from students in enrichment class have you broken anything down from the core to the enrichment classes and compared that's a great question so we did not do that in this report but I can pull that for us at another time but we did see like discover these between courses I don't know the actual breakdown by grade so perfect thank thank you team so that's those are no patent on passing grade another thing that we wanted to address and so this this data is super incomplete I still wanted to share it so in in the fall compared to the right and right before the end of fall semester we had taken a survey of Panorama survey the data is going to be inconclusive just because in the first Administration for high school for prayer that the high school it was like a middle school and high school middle school had 351 responses and then had 37 cuz we didn't the kids didn't have the correct link so you're talking about 3 hundred something number of kids that didn't take the survey and then for high school I was 160 responses compared to 7 I still wanted to share it even though the data is very limited very very few students something that I wanted to still think about is like the sense of belonging like that the few students that took the survey are not feeling like that full sense of belonging like they do in person so even though even though that is is doesn't represent the full population I still think it's good data to share with us if they see ya like our students are only communicating 45% sense of belonging in a 37% again even though it's limited were talking about 44 students total out of a school of nearly a thousand this is still data that I wanted us to look at so with that we talked about the motivation and so we've changed the way that we're doing community meeting adding Raffles and prizes and then adding clubs like today there is like karaoke for one of my sixth grade teachers and they're doing different programs to try to keep kids connected go to spell I visited the after-school program yesterday the kids were just super it was fun to surprise them and see them doing the robotics so we're really trying to add more programs the really motivate kids do it like you've heard me say this if you go to the recording you'll probably hear Mr kiaga say motivate by 50 times in this video it's because it's one of the things that we really want our want to do it school is motivate our kids so that they do have a sense of belonging a sense of Engagement and when I desire to do better and improve but I did want to share this with the team at what questions ssac do we have about this any other suggestions that you have to help us create a sense of belonging for a soon as I know we're doing our Compass Camp work but wanted to put it out there at the Stacy anything that were missing so that was the Panorama for reclassification I feel pretty good here so we will you continue to improve our reclassification year after year we were able to Paris classification even with Kobe. BL to still improve that are we added and yell D coordinator next year were adding an APR of intervention we're adding additional a differentiated courses for English language acquisition we expanded our library and I bought thousands of new books that were hoping they get into a kid's hands in person and then continuing to bail. a successful practice is for 4 enrichment intervention and and reading support largely leveraging our Wilson curriculum but this is some of the information here about reclassification so I feel good that we are able to increase it even during a pandemic and then our graduation rate of this guy I was talking to him office about this data or data should be closer to 9 6% but with our first graduating class this past year we had a 90-94 here but 96% graduation rate and we're continuing to provide like earlier intervention of establishing programs to support our students with with IEPs to be able to give them the best opportunity to graduate from high school on time so these are some of the programs for anyone who saw and our first graduation this past year just so proud of that class of 2020 and an excited for what we're going to be able to accomplish with the class of 2021 even without like being fully on side and experiencing all the normal things that they would experience but any questions about reclassification or graduation rates I think so the next thing is that next steps is will I'll bring back are the next information and data for our next meeting and I'll share another alcap update or diversion is El Cap a continuity plan to to the next ssac meeting with that just wanted this is that we're not going to be voting on anything today just wanted to provide update and information about our our elcap lcff work what's I'm going to stop sharing their and I will hand it back Missy actually I wanted to add a nut so I added I forgot that I added a couple side to the wanted to share a preliminary calendar for next year ISO preliminary academic calendar I want to go out and share this with everyone just to get your feedback all right, then I haven't got thanks. Thank God for your patience I'm going to show us the calendar for next year so this is a draft calendar let me zoom in a little bit all right so hopefully everyone is able to see this so wanted to get your feedback on the calendar so the left day of instruction would be August 11th teachers and staff would return August 2nd with like professional development is about a week and a half weather this past year first day of school is August 11th leaving to continue on through September with only like typically the only day off in September is Labor Day a thumbs up if you can see the calendar okay on your screen I'll get the then you transition October October we typically have our teacher planning days and parent conferences so doesn't take place October 11th in 12th then we will continue on in November and November 11th is Veterans Day So currently there's a day off on a Thursday Thanksgiving break will continue to be a full all week and then we would close out the semester December 17th so a little earlier than this past year then we would have our our winter break I'm going to move over to January winter break would continue through January 7th teachers would return January 10th and then students would return January 12th this is at that first week similar to is there isn't a weird week where it's only 3 days and then you have them MLK on Martin Luther King jr. holiday I know the point that we're at now is February and so we would have pretty much a full month of February except Presidents Day is also on Valentine's Day so if you have a if you have a valentine you get a 3-day weekend for that Valentine and so that's that in March we have Cesar Chavez they some marches you could see is a pretty long month there's no day off here except the last day of the month which is are our Nash California recognize Chavez Day then we would have another few days and then there would be two days off right before spring break so teachers would work the 7th and 8th but students are done 6th so even though you don't get any days off really accept such a job as day on March students get a nice long winter long spring break then we going some May and then the only typically in May is is our is our Memorial Day which is the last Monday of the month and that we would go into the last month of school in June with the last day of school being June 6th which would most likely be our graduation combination day and then June 17th is an observed holiday for us for our schools and then summer school would start the week of June 27th my daughter what are some questions or feedback I'm going to actually do a dual I'm going to do to kind of screen share some of his zoom out a little bit I'm assuming out there's a 185 school days in the total and then hopefully you're able to see actually a mikulenka do you see both the the calendar and the the note catcher or just the look at the calendar just the counter I think there's a way to do both all right do you see my full screen now yes so what questions do you have about the proposed calendar so ssac what are some questions that you have I know it's kind of small but I'm trying to have that so all right if no questions I'll leave this here are there any proposed aspects of the academic calendar that you think are helpful to Scholars Scholars families our staff So based on the calendar that I shared is there anything that are there any aspects that you think are beneficial to our community or if you just trust that the calendar is fine I'm good too but if there's if there's no are there any aspects about the proposed calendar that you think are there any concerns that you have about the calendar how many times do we meet with the is it just a great question so don't like how you talk about parent conferences we leverage the October people free days October 11 and 12 and then we would leverage d right before spring break the planning days in April April 7th and 8th any additional questions are concerns that you like I'm sorry maybe I missed it is there when is of a 2021 when is back to school night so back to school night would be a site is decision we would decide that typically it's in the first few weeks of school but but inserted this is like the alliance wide calendar so they're seeking input from us alright thank you Tim I'll leave this here if there's any questions comments or concerns School site this is more feedback just about the general academic calendar but yes we would want to have our cultural International Fair kind of events but we are Planet on our individual MIT calendar a great question okay any other question from the Artemis remembers this is open to the public so anyone can ask a question in this time can be a general question answer questions about the presentation that mr. steal uncle and me Jamaica languages share I see another question. Current attendance compared to impress an attendant is there a particular reason why Scholars are missing school yeah Drake Russian said that our attendance right actually is pretty comfortable but you know that for us yes the attendance that means like kids logging in to claim credit for attendance is still say hi but we still want more engagement and and participation in class so while we're seeing kids are still logging in their access to their word that going online we want to morning Chris participation in class but right now the attendance rate is actually pretty close to what we normally have just the tough thing is that we're just not we don't get to see them as much as normally would but in the Ada average daily attendance is pretty comfortable any other questions remember you can pronoun chart are you can raise your hand if you see that Lohan just raise your hand if you want to if you have a question we have another question here so it's what can we do at the school to help bridge to bridge the gap Inc especially in high school students yes so that is the the intention behind the new policy is to support in those grades. everything I'm not sure mr. pianko mentioned but all the high school teachers are using the same rubric for participation and classwork grading so that is consistent across classrooms so hopefully that will also help in in supporting students with their grades thank you Mister Maker lanco any other question from the Jamaica from the members this is your time the Sprout for Scholars that didn't graduate on stage did they let it completely to gain their diplomas what is the projected graduation rate for this year so yes the students that were on that list they did makeup classes to receive their diploma and then off the top of my head I'm not sure I know our counseling team is working very hard to make sure that every opportunity is given to students who are on the cusp of not graduating thank you and then whatever I sent from Cynthia missing that you are allowed to talk now Mary one I had a question regarding question I was having with my son the other day he mentioned to me that he had a couple teachers advised him that he wouldn't be able to get any wars in his classes unless he would share or what's the word that you guys use like you know when is camera on so that she could be seen during class you know I just I went over it with him and I said okay will you can open your camera but they can't my kids in my house because our service is so horrible if they're sharing their screens for like 5 minutes 5-minute sometimes less than 5 minutes like everything just scatters or they get kicked off or does I've got two kids on on you know our internet access when I have work to do and I have to actually work for work I try to avoid doing it during their class hours if at all I can but sometimes I just can't sometimes just something at that can't wait so everything in our house kind of revolves around the internet now so that was my only concern I did advise him to let me know who their teachers were that had told him this cuz it was something that I wanted to touch on but I think if you let me know like is it is this something like really he won't be able to get you know any Forest just because he can't turn his camera on for long length of time so good question we are we are really trying to get students to turn their cameras on build community while also holding them accountable to to the work we work with a lot of different schools and they have also had the same thing that when kids have their cameras on class is much more productive and so that's the rationale but we completely understand that internet is a are these days and so what we just asked is when a student participates or when the teacher asked that they do turn on their camera and then anytime that there's an issue they would just tell their teacher that that there is an internet issue but to have at least some interaction on camera is what we're looking for okay so I just want to make sure cuz I mean if we could I just make them constantly to be sincere with you but we just can't like you just the problem is it just doesn't interrupt the one person who's doing it and interrupts everybody in the house so I'll just make sure you know make sure that she knows and and that they're weird that they just need to communicate better with their teachers if they're having a problem for any concerns is you really want to do improve our student advocacy whenever there's a concern to reach out to a ministration operations or their teacher so that we can work with the perfect thank you give me some Solace and give it to me, so I don't know if we have more questions when I get back another 2 minutes for the Association to see if ssac would be interested and willing to donate any funds that they may have available at towards our cause like they said we are currently working to continue our senior foxes as well as our senior signs and unfortunately with being in distance learning we have not been able to do any Temple fundraising so right now we are zeroed out and I just wanted to make a formal request to see if that's something that you guys might be able to consider again and I'll close to our students we are currently working on trying to see how much funds we can raise and see what we can do for them so that that was my my little bit and then as you can see on the screen Wii have signed up for a first fundraiser through Chipotle this will take place on February 24th all of the funds that will be raised will be going towards this cause it if we are currently live future raised about $2,000 in order to create something very nice for our seniors we do have a class of about 50 students so against all of that money will go directly towards that cause so we hope you guys can all join and participate share it with your friends or family your neighbors you know shared on social media all they have to do is put in the code when the order or going to this particular store it is only for the store that located in Van Nuys at the plant so we really hope that we can count with everybody's Corporation thank you thank you Miss months I know and I think for the to allocate the money I think we can NBA agenda for the next meeting that's why I think exactly so what will you take in the comment and we'll look at adding it to the agenda for next week next month thank you do we have another last-minute questions comments concerns from the attendees come from the members okay I think we're good so our next meeting will be let me check the date really quick 3/11 I don't know hold on we're talking about the meeting for Spirit Association so that next one is March 3rd thank you sim33 and then whenever we're finished I miss Pina as the vice-chair will be out the clothes in the meeting for us so the meeting will be adjourned whenever she wants it to be done yammy do you want to go ahead and tell them it in if you think it's time okay we close the meeting at 4:37 p.m. was great to see you today if you if you're on a real quick so I have something for the ready review I was only if you're able to
