all right good morning parents thank you for joining us today we do have Spanish translation so if you go to the bottom of your screen you can select interpretation and clicks finish and are amazing MS-13 is actually translating this entire session in Spanish saying that in Spanish play Fireflies by Owl City espanol en espanol so we wanted to start we have a couple things that we wanted to do today we wanted to just start with our events so our high school dean mr. Campos is going to share what about what's going on on the culture side at MIT so hey parents I know last week you all share you know some interest in like wanting different sessions if I wanted to make sure I talk to you all about what we are offering students so we weekly leadership events how it tastes are these nights because I was out last week so it's for sure this will be like assuming we start next week Mondays we have a mighty athlete workouts but they're open to the general public and so we tend to do like a 30-minute full-body workout this in the hopes that we get our athletes are just general student like ready if they want to try out for Sports in the near future Tuesdays we have a watch party so we tend to stream a movie or a live sporting event on my noise Don Maker games in the past and so because it does change bi-weekly I don't have anything specific for that but the zoominfo doesn't change it's the same one for that day Wednesday we do have yoga soon as my something more relaxing midweek and then for all our ticktockers out Barrett we have to take talk Thursdays and so they tend to post videos and so challenges and things like that as soon as I'm in Friday we do have communion meeting for that one the invitation is sent out through parent square and a duck change because I do have a different ID depending on the grade level on so just be on the lookout for that if you would like to attend and then our social media is there as well if you want to look up other information I know that journalism is also having a game this Sunday and so if you check their Instagram they will definitely have that post it and I'm pretty sure they will send out a parent Square in the near future for that event great thank you mr. Campos and we hope that we get a lot of you to come out for a weekly event along with your with your student next up mr. check on mr. Compass do you want to introduce Our Guest hey good morning everyone so we we had the pleasure of meeting well I believe it she is part of the five Network and she's going to share an exciting opportunity for high school students specifically targeting our 9th grade students aren't the ones who just made the transition metals Eliza from middle school to high school and she's going to share some exciting information about a mentorship and support program that we will have available at our school and we're super excited I think everyone knows as I'm watching the sky theme translate I'll go nice and slow knowing that she's translating I could see the tension and the stress leaving her body so I'm making sure that I'm talking as slowly as possible I just wanted to make sure I scared that like we're excited about possibly being one of the first Los Angeles school to have this opportunity and as many of you know Alliance MIT the eye in our name is innovation and so we're always trying to do new programs activities services that are going to help our students and families be stressful to be successful and ready for college career and life and so without further to do I'd like to introduce is about to go ahead and present and said just a reminder so if you could just keep the pace decently slow just so our translator isn't too stressed out she's doing an amazing job and staffs already I think y'all handle. so much good morning parents I'm so excited to be presenting to you today I'm just going to share my screen so I can show you a little bit about the five Network so I am a program manager five network is a technology company that provides a mentorship opportunity for students not only a one-on-one Mentor but they'll actually the network of five people this whole idea is based on you are the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with so two of those five are going to be a program manager a mentor operator says one that is in charge of mentors and making sure that they are held accountable for their responsibilities with your student and then make it three top-tier professional Mentor these are mentors. Are in field that you're didn't is interested in their mentors that are experienced and they are have gone through extensive training on how to provide career opportunities and career development for your student so team of five mentors will be following your students for five years so starting in the 9th grade they will go through a bit of a trial basis with our program manager me are the program managers and the five Network is all done through mobile app the students will engage through the mobile app they will read articles do challenges learn about different careers and it's a game of hide and that just means that we recording the interactions that they turn on the mobile app and we use those interactions to identify the best mentors for them when we identified those mentors we will match them up in the spring and that is our our handoff time right we love to see the students interacting with the mentors we're reading their conversations we're seeing what they're interacting with and talking about and we are still how to check in with them all the time so the program manager is still their main point of contact for the five Network and then one question. I'm sure all parents have the security of this 5 Network take safety it security very seriously we want to make sure that this is a safe space for the students but we also want to make sure that they are learning and growing from this experience and able to learn how to cook learn how to get into the field today like to get into and just being exposed to a network of people that can take them on into their next level of Life After High School so we have background checks for all mentors and five staff that is done every month just to make sure that we are safeguarding your students experience and I want to make sure I'm not taking up too much of your time here so here is my contact information it's Isabel at the V network.com you can also visit our website for more information which is ww.w. MacLean, mr. chai alright hello again just like me some tacos said we we are trying a new method so that you get as much information as possible as a parent and we can continue to up you even in times like we have now we're male might not be the best method so we we opted to email out our progress so all of you should have an email in your inbox from an account called Alliance MIT complex that has your students by week progress report in it it looks a little bit like this now if you do not have that email in your inbox that means that we have an out-of-date email address for you so if that is the case if you do not have this email than simply email our operations team with the correct email addresses that you would like us to use if one of our staff members here could put that email address in the chat once again if you did not receive this email that is because we don't have correct email address on file for you and simply email our operations team and they will update that for you now I wanted to speak a little bit about the progress report so that you understand all the information in it because we added some things that are going to be really helpful to you and your student know exactly where where they stand both the middle school and the high school letter begins in this way where it it just has a little information and then it speaks about when this report was run so this report was actually run on 921 or sorry I'm yours it says 9:22 so the grades are up to date as of yesterday teachers put in any grades today then that might change things but this is based on the date that's listed right here next up is what you see typically on a Prague support it is the grade for each course along with the teacher information and email so you can actually click on the teachers email address and email them directly if you have any questions I'm just waiting for Miss cartoon de to catch up so we we prefer you to email the teachers directly so use these links do not respond to this email address because this email that we sent it fer we rarely check so you might not get a response if you email if you reply to this email next up is pacifically for the high school but it is good for our Middle School parents to start getting familiar with so we have what are called credits at the high school and in order to move up grade grade level you need to obtain a certain amount of credit so for example a 9th grader needs to earn at least 55 credits to get promoted to the 10th grade a tenth grader needs 120 credits to get promoted to the 11th grade the way you earn credits is bypassing individual class for example if you pass first semester of math you earn V credits if you pass second semester of math you earn another 5 credits so each year you have the potential of earning 65 credits on some of your reports it might say 0 credit you currently have 0 credits that's because our 9th graders haven't earned any credits yet at the end of the semester that will change because they have would have earned credits over the course of first semester once again this is specifically for high school students but our Middle School families it's really good. start these conversations now so that they start familiarizing themselves with the credit system in high school and the last thing I want to say about this is these are not made up by Alliance MIT these are actually state requirements to graduate so now related to that again this is high school specific but it's good for our Middle School families to be aware we actually provided you with a current status of where your student is with those credits so everyone statement might look different based on the credits they currently have and their grades in the current semester so in this example it says given your current grades at 5-week Mark you are projected to earn 37.5 credits this semester keep up the great work you're on track to be promoted and graduate on time student will is on track to be promoted and graduate on time based on their credit so we have bucketed kids and two different categories based on their credit so that that message you saw is for the green they are they are on track to to be promoted I need to delete this sorry one second the next category of students are students that maybe credit deficient or failing some of their courses there in the yellow bucket they might need to attend some but is if they improve their grades they will still be on track to graduate on time and be promoted the orange category are students that are have credit deficient and they are failing classes currently and so those are students we want to push to make sure that they pass get those entities to a passing grade so that they can still be promoted but they will probably have to go to summer school and then finally in the red category these are students that will probably have to go to summer school and maybe even have to repay the grade because their credit efficient and or they're failing multiple classes I'm just waiting starting to catch up okay what I want to make really clear is for the middle school and high school we are only five weeks into the semester no matter what your situation is students can deeply improve that over the course of the next 15 weeks so every single one of our you can still earn all of their credits for this semester they just need to communicate with teachers if they are going to miss assignments and they need to show up and participate in every Zoom class what are the final information on the progress report is the current GPA which is on both the middle school and the high school this is GPA just for this 5 weeks the cumulative GPA is for their four years of High School so this student is actually a 9th grader so they don't actually have a cumulative GPA because they haven't finished the semester yet at high school for our seniors they will have nine in 11th grade they're all those gpas combined for an average and again this is really important for the Middle School families what was the high school just to give you an idea of what GPA you need for certain universities these are the minimums that you need to even apply those types of school so for Cal State you need at least a 2.0 and for you seize or private colleges you need at least a 3.0 and obviously to be attractive to those schools you want even a higher GPA not just a minimum dhofar Middle School families now is the time where students can build habit around building a really strong GPA so when they get to high school it's even that much the last thing on the progress reports for both the middle school and high school counselor information these are the counselors for each grade level and again you can just click their email address and that should allow you to email them directly if you have any questions about NPS credit anything like that so the last thing I'll say and then I'll open it up to my team if if you have a student that is struggling right now and has multiple and pees whether you're in middle school or High School the two things that you can do is number one show up and participate in our Zoom classes and number to complete the assignments in class that teachers give you most of our classes there is not much homework most of the teachers actually allow students to complete the work during the zoom session so it's really important that the students attend participate and submit that work and they should be fine to pass that class the lap and then if your student is doing well there passing all their classes and they want to just raise their GPA the best way to do that is for students to follow the teacher's criteria for Success also called CFS and most of our teachers give students a CFS for every assignment and what that tells students is how to earn a perfect score on an assignment so that is all I have will open it up to questions in a second but anyone any of the Palin panelist want to elaborate or add anything okay we are getting some questions in the Q&A please just ask your questions in the Q&A we will answer them I am pulling up one additional piece of information that may be helpful play one one piece of information that I think it's helpful that some parents were asking for is this conversion chart don't worry if this is confusing but I wanted a show for the parents that would like to know this is the conversion chart for how you earn certain letter grades so for example to get an A you you have to earn a 94% or above on an assignment or a 3.7 out of 4 in order to pass a class to get a c minus you need to get a 70% or a 2.0 anything below a 2.0 out of four or a 70% is a a no pass
