Hello MIT Staff,

On Tuesday, May 18, we will have a fire drill on campus for all OSSS students/staff. Our drill is scheduled at 11:50 AM (once HS students return to class from break). Drills are important to help us understand our procedures in the event of a real emergency. All staff, please review all steps listed down below and follow them as best as possible. 


Staff in Classrooms/Offices (at exactly 11:50 a.m.)

1. The entire school will hear the fire alarm. 
2. Have your students line up inside of your classroom in an orderly fashion. If possible, following 6 ft. social distancing. Administrators assigned to your floor, will assist with the dismissal process. 
3. Take your red emergency backpack, bucket, and classroom sign with you as you leave. You may assign responsible students to carry them. Staff with no students: please take your red backpack/bucket as well.
4. MS Staff: Walk your students to the blacktop. HS Staff: Walk your students to the large playground aka as the courts. As soon as you arrive, line them up accordingly. MS/HS Admin will be at both locations to assist with organizing lines. Please note: follow your classroom evacuation map to know which way to exit the building. 
5. Once you arrive at the blacktop/courts find your classroom number on the floor and line up your class behind it. Please make sure students are following social distancing requirements. Once you are settled in with your class, please take attendance for the current class period and complete the Absent Student Form &  Missing/Injured student form located in your red binder. 
6. You will also find a green/red laminated card in your backpack, please take it out and hold the card to communicate the following: 

  • Red Card - Missing Students/Need Assistance

  • Green Card - All Students Present


7. Hand your forms (total of 3) to a member of the operations team. They will be going around to collect them.
8. Wait for the all clear to return to your classrooms. Once drill is over, HS students will report back to their classrooms and MS students will report to break. 

Admin, Ops Leads, Counselors, IA's/BII's, Security Guard
Please assist us in getting all students and staff members to the blacktop during evacuation. Below, please find your assigned post/evacuation area. For those with no assigned post, please assist in evacuating all students and staff.
  • Carlstone - 1st floor MS building: direct students to blacktop and sweep entire first floor including student and staff restrooms
  • Cambero - 2nd floor MS building: direct students to blacktop and sweep entire first floor including student and staff restrooms
  • Andrade - MS Admin Offices on 1st & 2nd floor: direct staff to blacktop and sweep both floors
  • Corbera - 1st floor HS building: direct students to blacktop and sweep entire first floor including student and staff restrooms
  • Tsai/Campos - 2nd floor HS building: direct students to blacktop and sweep entire first floor including student and staff restrooms
  • Perez/Cartin - HS Admin Offices on 1st and 2nd floor: direct staff to blacktop and sweep both floors
  • All-Stars Staff - Check courts and blacktop for any students in the blacktop and courts
  • Custodial Staff - MPR: direct students/staff to blacktop and sweep MPR
  • Zelaya - Basement
  • All other Admin/Staff - Please assist in the Blacktop/Courts to organize all lines. 

Once everyone has evacuated to the yard, please begin to do the last walk through of all buildings according to your assigned area. For those assigned to a specific building/floor, please check all classrooms, offices, and restrooms as well. Call an all clear through the radio once you have completed your walk through. 

Operations Staff/Custodians
Please take all emergency supplies located in our Main Offices, including Emergency Card Binders and Visitors Log. Please assist us in getting all students and staff members to the blacktop/playground during evacuation. Place all emergency supplies in the incident command center (in front of MPR). Once everyone is situated in the blacktop, please collect all attendance rosters.
